Energy Saving Grants for UK Veterans
Both veterans who own their own homes or are private tenants have the potential to benefit from an Energy Saving Grant, offering assistance in heating their homes more efficiently. Through a Government-backed ECO Scheme, veterans receiving specific qualifying benefits may find eligibility for support in acquiring a new boiler for their property or even having central heating installed for the first time, particularly if they reside in privately rented accommodation.
Within the framework of the energy-saving scheme, the ‘Big Six’ energy suppliers, including SSE, EDF Energy, British Gas, npower, E.ON UK, and ScottishPower, are mandated to contribute funding for grants aimed at installing new, energy-efficient boilers for households with boilers that are at least 7 years old. These grants are accessible to veterans or anyone permanently residing in the household who receives one of several eligible benefits.
Even for veterans who don’t own their homes, there’s an opportunity to apply for funding as a tenant in privately rented accommodation lacking a current or previous central heating system. As a veteran receiving one of the qualifying benefits, you would be the applicant, requiring your landlord’s permission to proceed with a first-time boiler grant application. However, tenants in council-owned properties, housing association homes, or other local authority-run social housing would not be eligible for the scheme.
